I am pumped to join KYC as Policy and Advocacy Officer, where I will be focused on improving justice system outcomes for Aboriginal young people in Victoria.
I was lucky enough to be born and raised in Wurundjeri Country here in Naarm. I’ve hung around the area to make sure I’m always close enough to grab a feed off mum and dad.
I’ve spent the last year and a half working with the Aboriginal Justice Caucus as their Policy Officer. It was inspirational to witness the leadership of Caucus members in advocating for their communities across justice spaces, and their impact in convincing government to lift their game.
There’s still so much that needs to change. Time and again in conversation with government, I’ve seen that Aboriginal young people are spoken about and decisions made on their behalf but without the representation and input they deserve. I’m passionate about elevating the voices of young people who are full of incredible ideas for what they and their communities need.
Bonnie has assembled an amazing team of passionate young leaders who are energised to stand up and fight for their peers in community. I am excited to join the team and support KYC’s efforts to make sure that young Aboriginal voices are not just heard but listened to.
Outside of work I love playing soccer and keeping active, with a newfound passion for boxing (see you 5.30pm Wednesdays at MAYSAR). I also love travelling as much as possible, both around Victoria and further afield.
